And we are back!!

8th Mar 2021

Phew what a busy 4 weeks back! We started off by doing some revision work  – numbers , letters and sounds – we tried to make it fun by playing games to help us revise our sounds.

In maths we played lots of dominoes to help us with our counting and number pattern recognition, we all really enjoyed this game.

In Art and Science we designed – and then made –  leprechaun traps in the hope that we would catch a leprechaun. The infant room has been unlucky in recent years and we felt sure this was to be our year. We set the traps after our parade in the yard on Tuesday 16th March. On our return to school on Thursday 18th March we anxiously peered into our traps….. a very small shovel was left behind in one trap but no other sign of a leprechaun – apart from a large basket of gold chocolate coins in the middle of the classroom floor which we shared amongst everyone. Still we enjoyed our designing and making!

As there was no St Patrick’s Day parade in Sligo this year the school asked everyone to dress in green and we held our own parade to celebrate St Patrick and Seachtain na Gaeilge. The school band played tunes for us as we marched around and they sounded pretty good considering it was only their 2nd day back in the school building.

The first 4 weeks back saw us making 3 cards so we were delighted to practise our writing skills writing our messages inside the cards – we made a card for Mother’s Day, a card for St Patrick’s Day and a card to celebrate Easter. We were very pleased with how they turned out!

In our Aistear sessions we were learning about Spring so we have done activities on frogs and their life cycles, sheep and their lambs, farming and Spring flowers. We each planted a tiny sunflower seed in a pot and we have been taking good care of them. Some have started to grow already – but now it is the Easter holidays so we are taking them home to care for them inside until they can go outdoors in May. We are going to take a photo of our sunflowers and measure them to see whose is the biggest! When we come back after Easter we will be growing vegetables!
