January 2022 with 3rd and 4th
Happy New Year to everyone and welcome back!
Let’s hope 2022 will be a very bright, healthy and joyous year for you all.
The children have been very busy during January both at school and at home.
Show and Tell
For our Show and Tell, some of the children have been displaying their various pastimes and talents to the class.
We were very lucky to see some real magic fingers completing the Rubix Cube from Jake. We were all astonished at his amazing skills and speed. Well done Jake!
Grace displayed some beautiful drawing and art work from her art folder. Well done to you Grace.
Naomi was telling us about Poland and also helping us to speak some Polish. Thank you Naomi!
History – Ancient Egypt
Our topic in history during January was Ancient Egypt. The children have been learning about the River Nile and its importance to Egypt. We learned about the Ancient Egyptians and their various ways of life. The different topics included what the Egyptians ate and drank, what clothes they wore, what children played in the free time and what the farmers grew in their fields. The most interesting topic of all were the Pharaohs and their religious beliefs. We read about the Pyramids in the Valley of the Kings and the wonderful treasures that were discovered inside them. We especially enjoyed learning about mummies!
The children researched and compiled a very interesting project on the Ancient Egyptians with some very detailed illustrations to accompany it.
Well done 3rd and 4th.
Gaeilge
At the end of our week, the children get the opportunity to write their short stories using the various vocabulary and phrases they have learned during the week.
The children enjoy getting the chance to read out their written work to their peers.
Our Class Novel – Charlotte’s Web
Wilbur, Fern, Templeton and Charlotte have been very welcome additions to our classroom in January. We have been listening intently to the different adventures on the farm. Certainly our dark and dull days of January have been brightened enormously by our class novel.
The children produced some very nice novel covers for our book corner display. Some beautiful productions!
We have also started our tin whistle classes!
A super start to 2022 from the 3rd and 4th class children.
