October in 1st and 2nd class.
We have had a fun filled and busy month! This month we have been learning about Italy, playing spelling games, melting different materials (mainly food!) writing letters, celebrating maths week and Halloween and learning about litter.
We enjoyed finding out about Italy and especially the food tasting session – bruchetta was a hit and ravioli but gnocchi was not so tasty…. We learned many interesting facts and presented them to the class and displayed them on the wall for all to read.
We have got penpals from a school in Ennis in County Clare and we spent a long time writing our first letter to our new friends. We are eagerly awaiting their reply – everyday “Have they written back yet?”….
Our class has signed up to a new initiative called PickerPals, it is to encourage us not to drop litter and to realise the damage it can do. There was great excitement when the box arrived in class and we watched as little reading books came out – 1 for each child, little fun activity books came out – 1 for each child and the gloves, litter pickers and high vis vests. We had to get permission form our parents to participate and now each weekend one person gets to take the kit and go somewhere with their family to pick up litter. This will also tie in with our Green Flag campaign – especially if some of us go to the beach to pick up litter as our new theme is “Marine”.
Finally we got to dress up for our Halloween disco and party. We practised our “Monster Mash” dance and had great moves!
