Some of the children attending morning club and myself met with the engineer Mr Kelly from Sligo County Council this morning. The council have plans for the Rathnarrow Road junction with the N17. This includes a narrowing of the road and a raised crossing area. The widening of the footpath would mean it would be 2 metres wide.
Although this doesn't tackle the issue of speeding in the village, the engineer explained that because the N17 is a national road it falls under the remit of TII and the Gardaí.
Mr Kelly gave some helpful advice for the parking issues around the school and we are grateful for his time and concern. Many thanks to those who use the community centre for dropping off and picking up the children. He is also going to contact those in charge of the pedestrian crossing lights as they were not working today.
Ellen and Dolores from Green Schools were also in attendance this morning to lend support and advise what has occurred in other schools nationally.
